Shanghai Metro was put into formal operation in the early 1990s. It is the third urban railway system following the Beijing subway and Tianjin subway, as well as the longest urban railway system in China. Shanghai Metro Line 1 was put into trial operation in April 1995. As of the end of 2008, Shanghai Metro have covered a total length of 236 km, 162 stations (not including the maglev line), with the scale ranking the first in the country.
Metro fare: 0-6 km 3 Yuan, 6 - 16 km 4 Yuan, 16 - 26 km 5 Yuan, 26 - 36 km 6 Yuan, 36-46km 7 Yuan, 46 -56 km 8 Yuan, 56-66 km 9 Yuan.
The starting price of taxi in Shanghai is 12 Yuan/ 3 km, 2.4 Yuan per kilometer after 3km, and 3.6 Yuan per kilometer after 10km.
Night (23:00-5:00), the starting price is 16 Yuan / 3 km, 3.1 Yuan per kilometer after 3km, and 4.7 yuan per kilometer after 10km.
For suburban taxi (Shanghai-C license can only wrong outside the Outer Ring Road (including the Outer Ring Road)), the starting price is 10 Yuan / 3 km, 2.4 Yuan per kilometer after 3km during day and 3.1 Yuan per kilometer after 3km during night, but with no charge after 10 km.
All vehicles waiting or driving less than 12 kilometers per hour will charge cost equivalent to that for one kilometer for every 5 minutes.
