Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is located in the western suburb of Shanghai, about 13 km from the city center. Hongqiao International Airport has been the busiest airport in mainland China before the completion of Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Before expansion, the airport has a runway and a taxiway. The runway (now N.1 runway) is 3,400 meters long, 57.6 meters wide. The apron is approximately 486,000 square meters with a total of 66 stands. The terminal covers an area of 82,000 square meters with 15 waiting halls, 18 VIP rooms and 15 baggage transfer systems. After the expansion, the No.2 runway and the No.2 terminal was completed and prodding to use on March 11 and March 16, 2010 respectively. However, it should be noted that the two terminals are not directly connected, passengers need short voyage vehicles or other bus lines for trip between the two terminals.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport is located in Jiangzhen, Shiwan and Zhu Qiaobin sea zone, Pudong New Area. It covers an area of 40 square kilometers, and is about 30 km from the city center.
