China Southern Honors 10-Year  Sino-US  777 Service

GUANGZHOU, China - August 2, 2007 - China Southern Airlines, (NYSE: ZNH, HKSE: 1055, SHA 600029) - www.cs-air.com/en - the 9th largest airline in the world and the largest airline in The People's Republic of China has celebrated 10 years of safe flight service between China and the United States.

The airline held a gala celebration in Guangzhou to commemorate its 10th Anniversary of Boeing 777 transpacific service between China and the United States.

Present at the ceremony were more than 200 guests from the varied circles, including CAAC Minister Mr. Yang Yuan Yuan; Guangdong Vice Governor Mr. Tong Xing and senior management from the State Council’s State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission; Guangzhou municipal government; CAAC administrations in varied regions; other Chinese carroers; the Boeing Company; GE Company and the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou.

China Southern has safely transported more than 500,000 people between the two nations and after a decade of operations, has grown its 777 fleet to the largest of that kind in The People’s Republic of China … with 10 B777s and 188 pilots.

In addition to the five weekly flights between Guangzhou and Los Angeles, the airline’s 777 fleet is operating to numerous international destinations, including:

  1. Guangzhou - Melbourne/Sydney
  2. Guangzhou - Tokyo
  3. Guangzhou - Paris
  4. Guangzhou - Dubai and
  5. Shanghai - Amsterdam

 

Ever since the first introduction of the 777 in 1995, the carrier’s fleet have become the first choice for passengers and the airline’s “Flagship Brand” with a safe flight record, state-of-the-art entertainment system, spacious cabin and quality in-flight service.

China Southern Airlines’ 777 Fleet has recorded more than 110,000 safe take-offs and landings with a total flight trip up to 207.633 Million kilometers; more than 340,000 hours flown and 21 Million passengers carried, equal to the airline’s total annual passenger traffic in 2002 when the carrier entered into the world Top 20 airlines.

In the past ten years, as China Southern’s “Flagship”, the Red-Kapok-logo B777s have flown all over the world. 

Here are just some examples:

  1. On 14 February 2000, China Southern Airlines wet leased two 777s to Bangladesh Airlines. That was the ever first time for a Chinese carrier to wet lease its large-sized aircraft to a foreign airline;
  2. On 15 July 2001, China Southern Airlines' 777 achieved a successful certification flight over the North Pole, becoming the first Asian carrier to conduct such a North Polar overflight with a twin-engine aircraft;
  3. On 18 May 2004, China Southern Airlines successfully conducted a facility test flight with its new 777 at the new Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, marking the start of successful operations at this brand new large international airport – the ever first Chinese airport designed in line with a hub concept;
  4. On 29 January 2005, China Southern Airlines' Boeing 777 successfully made the ever first charter flight to Taipei, the first mainland Chinese carrier taking off from the mainland and landing in Taiwan area in the past 56 years;
  5. In 2000 and 2006, China Southern Airlines sent its 777 to fly to the Solomon Islands to retreat war-struck overseas Chinese back to the Chinese motherland;
  6. In 2006, China Southern Airlines was globally ranked #9,  with 49.21 million passengers carried annually;
  7. And by the close of 2007, China Southern Airlines will join SkyTeam - the world’s largest airline alliance.
