China Southern Named Best Air Cargo in China;1st Annual Cargonews Asia Awards Lauds Nation’s Largest Airline

HONG KONG - April 27, 2005 - China Southern Airlines (NYSE: ZNH, HKSE: 1055, SHA 600029) - www.csair.com/en - the largest airline in The People’s Republic of China has today been named the Best Air Cargo in China at the 1st Annual Cargonews China Awards, presented as part of the 19th Annual Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCAs).

China Southern Airlines Cargo was recognized by a free vote of the readers of Cargonews China for excellence in its field and based on a numbered ballot ensuring a strict single vote by the registered readers of Cargonews China.

 

The winners of the First Annual Cargonews China Awards and the 19th Annual AFSCAs were announced tonight in the grand ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel Hong Kong on the Kowloon waterfront with a gala dinner and awards ceremony taking place in front of an audience of more than 400 key decision makers from shippers and the transport and logistics industry of Asia.

China Southern Airlines owns and operates a fleet of Boeing 747-400 aircraft servicing cargo/freight customers in Europe and the United States to varied Chinese markets.

China Southern Airlines operates from the new BaiyunInternationalAirport, which is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art facilities. The new airport cargo station, is the largest project of its kind in China’s civil aviation industry. Located on the west side of the north office zone of the airport, the new cargo station covers a total construction area of over 100,000 sq meters, of which the cargo handling area is more than 76,000 sq meters.

 

Additionally, there are also five special aprons for freighters and thousands of square meters of parking and greenbelt. The new cargo station is designed to manage 800,000 tons of cargo in the first phase with future growth reaching 2.5 Million tons.The new cargo facility is currently the largest in China, second largest in Asia and the third largest in the world.

 

The spacious and brightly-lit cargo zone is equipped with a 100 square meter Dangerous Cargo Warehouse; an Animal House of 160 square meters; two Valuable Cargo Warehouses of more than 280 square meters and 500 square meters respectively and a Refrigeration Warehouse. With these warehouses, special goods such as live animals, vaccine and frozen articles can wait in compartments for transportation in a comfortable and safe environment.
