China Southern Swoops In To Denmark For Flying Swine Project;
Plump Porkers Painstakingly Packaged & Proceed Promptly

BILLUND, Denmark, - July 7, 2004 - China Southern Airlines (NYSE: ZNH) (HKSE: 1055) - www.csair.com/en - the largest airline in The People¡¯s Republic of China operated a special 747-400 cargo aircraft to re-locate more than 500 breeding swine to China.

China Southern¡¯s freighter flight #CZ494 from Liege Belgium was re-routed here to Denmark to pick-up 15 main deck pallets containing more than 500 breeding pigs. The total weight of the plump porkers was more than 65 tons.

From Billund, China Southern¡¯s special cargo flight flew directly for Zhengzhou in China, the new home for the swine. Special arrangements for this safe and humane transportation of the pigs were made by Sea Danbred, Copenhagen. The evening flight from Billund departed at 01:50 and arrived in China at 17:00 ¨C thus avoiding daytime heat during flight for the animals.

China Southern Airlines maintained close working contact with Sea Danbred to set the appropriate flight schedule as the swine had to be released from their quarantine station just prior to departure. At Billund Airport, the animals were given a final inspection by local veterinary authorities to verify that all of the swine could safely fit into the transportation cages.

Each of the cages were specially built for this project, with specific dimensions to conform to China Southern¡¯s Boeing 747-400 freighter. Each cage had three levels with built-in drinking facilities for the animals.

According to Marcel C.A. Bakker, Deputy Cargo Manager, China Southern - Amsterdam, ¡°the handling agent at Billund Airport did a fantastic job. They are familiar with handling this type of traffic to numerous worldwide destinations but on a much smaller scale. The project went from initial discussions to final flight with the supervision of Arie Goudsblom (China Southern¡¯s Dutch-based handling agent) who supervised the loading of the animals in Billund and the China Southern cargo team who worked out all of the weight and balance and load planning of the aircraft.¡±

Bakker added that Sea Danbred informed the airline that they were very pleased with the handling of the animals upon arrival in China.
